1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends signals to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the position of the camshaft, in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate a chain stretch or a jumped chain link in the upper chain. However, the error code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit tricky as there are two different pins for the connector and they serve different purposes however the best method of testing it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is operational, it should be reading about 1000 ohms. If you are having problems with this component, look for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, I experienced an abrupt drop in power like the engine is out of gas or injectors are not firing any more. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked with gasoline and the 4th was dry. I put tissue over each injector hole, and when I start the engine without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump out. The fourth one remains shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I get 0ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected and is running fine when it is plugged in however it has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not certain what to do, but i feel i have pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. I'm afraid i may have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles.
